The Ullal Police on Monday arrested two persons, said to be workers at the Navayuga Udupi Tollway Pvt. Ltd., Talapady, on the charge of attempt to murder.

The police gave the names of the accused as Deekshith (28) and Kaushik (21), who now have been sent to judicial custody by a jurisdictional court.

According to the police, Ansar (28), a resident of Narlapadilu, Talapady, filed a complaint with them on Monday accusing the staff working at the toll plaza of inflicting severe injuries on him on Sunday night.

He was travelling from Mangaluru to Talapady in a four-wheeler and told the toll plaza staff that he need not pay the fee since he was a local resident.

However, the vehicle he was driving did not have a local registration number and the staff insisted that he pay the fee. Soon, an argument broke out and people from the surrounding areas gathered at the place. During the commotion, the accused staff allegedly hit complainant’s head with an iron rod.

Ullal Police had to rush to the spot and bring the situation under control.

The incident comes close on the heels of a reported attack on a four-wheeler driver at Navayuga’s toll plaza allegedly by the toll booth staff at Sasthana in Udupi district last week.
