The police have slapped a case against three Communist Party of India (Marxist) workers for escaping from police custody.
The police said on Friday that they had arrested 182 CPI(M) leaders and workers while they were on their march to Sri Krishna Math/Temple in Udupi on December 27.
The accused were then taken to the DAR Grounds. But while producing the accused before the court at 12.30 a.m. on December 28, only 179 persons were there and three were missing.
The three persons are Venkanamma (38), resident of Bagepalli, Kolar district; K. Venkatesh (41), resident of Ram Nagar, Bangalore; and Vivek (22), resident of Mysore. Since the number of accused was huge, they had been kept at the DAR Grounds and it was during this time the three had escaped from police custody.
Although the three accused knew of their arrest and still escaped, a case under Section 224 of Indian Penal Code (Resistance or obstruction by a person to his lawful apprehension) had been registered and investigations were on, the police said.
