The Hindu Young World Quiz tomorrow

Schoolchildren will get an opportunity here on Thursday to see who has the sharpest mind. The eighth edition in Mangalore of The Hindu Young World Quiz '11, an initiative of The Hindu-NIE, is all set to get students thinking.

The event, to be inaugurated by Alok Mohan, Inspector-General of Police, Western Range, will be held on Thursday at Loyola Hall, St. Aloysius PU College, Kodialbail, at 11 a.m.

Participation is open to schoolchildren from classes VII to IX. Teams will consist of two students from the same school. A maximum of four teams from a school will be allowed. The teams in each centre will participate in a written preliminary round, from which the six finalists for that centre will be chosen. In each centre, the finals will be held immediately after the preliminaries. The winners in each centre will qualify for the all-India finals.

The Hindu will arrange for the travel and stay of the outstation team (along with one adult escort per team) qualifying for the all-India final.

The title sponsor for the event is Velammal Educational Trust.

The associate sponsors are Extramarks Education Pvt. Ltd and Indian Overseas Bank. National sponsors are Black Thunder, Gold Winner, Amway, Vizag Steel, Maggi Noodles, Wilco Picture Library, Puffin India, Firefox Bikes, Reynolds, Funfills, Success Notebooks, and Cricket Caricatures.

The regional sponsors are St. Joseph Engineering College, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd, P.A. College of Engineering, Dakshina Kannada Milk Union Ltd. (DKMUL), and New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT).

The car sponsor is Tata Nano, beverage sponsor is Real, water sponsor is Bisleri, and the event manager is I Ads & Events.

The grand finale will be held in Thiruvananthapuram on November 14.
