Surfing event postponed

May 22, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:42 am IST - MANGALURU:

The district administration on Thursday postponed the National Surfing Championship slated between May 29 and May 31 in Mangaluru in view of the model code of conduct for the Gram Panchayat elections.

The event will now be held between October 22 and October 25. The Deputy Commissioner felt it would be difficult to invite people’s representatives in the district for the event in view of the model code of conduct, said a press release. The Mulki-based Surfing Federation of India expressed its disappointment with the postponement. Preparations were on in full swing and over 60 participants had registered for the Championship, being held for the first time in Karnataka. Federation Vice-President Rammohan Paranjape told The Hindu the organisers did not seek any government funding for the event. Mr. Paranjape hoped that the event would be held as planned in October.
