Sullia police recover part of dacoity loot

The Sullia Police have recently recovered 71.52 gm gold and ₹11,590 cash in a dacoity case from Sampaje village reported on March 20 wherein miscreants had looted ₹1.52 lakh cash and 83 gm gold from the residence of one Ambarish.

The police had arrested Karthik, Yadhu Kumar, K.N. Deekshith and B. Narasimhan earlier and had recovered ₹20,000 cash, the vehicle used for committing the offence, and five mobile phones earlier.

Upon arresting Senthil and Pandisailam from Tamil Nadu on April 1 in connection with the dacoity, the jurisdictional court had sent them to judicial custody. Police took Senthil to custody with the permission of the court and recovered ₹11,590 cash, 71.52 gm gold and two cars, said a release from the Dakshina Kannada district police.

Dies in accident

A motorcycle rider died on the spot after hitting an oncoming bus at the Mala Ghat in Karkala taluk on Wednesday.

Police gave the name of the rider as Nithesh, 23, who was riding the motorcycle from Sringeri towards Mala with one Nandesh on pillion. The mishap occurred when the rider was overtaking a tipper truck at Otehalla on a curve of NH 169. After the hitting the bus head-on, the motorcycle also hit a concrete pole on the road flank resulting in severe head injury to the rider.

Padmakumar from Mala Chowki informed the Karkala rural police, who registered a case in this regard.

Drowns

Samrat Majumdar, 28, a resident of Bengaluru, drowned in the Arabian Sea on Tuesday at Malpe in Udupi district. According to complainant Snehashish Majumdar, 59, victim’s father, his son had gone to Malpe to attend a friend’s marriage and checked into a hotel at Malpe on Monday.

He went for a swim with friends on Tuesday morning in the sea near Kulluga Resort. Samrat and his friend Binu Mohan were caught in the currents of the sea.

Lifeguard Chandru rescued Binu initially and when he went to save Samrat, he had already drowned. The victim was declared brought dead at a hospital. Malpe police have registered a case of unnatural death and are investigating.
