Chairman of Karnataka State Bar Council P.P. Hegde has asked Lokayukta Y. Bhaskar Rao to demit office owing to allegations of the demand of bribe from an official.
Talking to reporters here on Friday, Mr. Hegde said that such an allegation comes few days after a report of Lokayukta Police Superintendent of Police Sonia Narang about alleged demand of bribe by a Lokayukta official from an Executive Engineer. These incidents have brought down image of the image of institution.
Mr. Hegde said Mr. Rao should take moral responsibility and demit the chair.
He cited instances of resignations tendered by the former Lokayukta Shivaraj Patil and R. Gururajan following allegations of acquiring site from a cooperative society in contrary to rules. Mr. Rao should tender his resignation to uphold sanctity of the post he was holding, he said.
Mr. Hegde said the allegations were serious and persons involved should be booked under the provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act.
The Karnataka Bar Council will submit a representation to Governor Vajubhai Vala to look into the allegations.
