A demand was made in the weekly phone-in programme at the Police Commissioner’s office for starting women’s special city buses during peak hours on select routes.

The caller said that commuters, more so, women face hardship travelling in city buses during peak hours. Like the special services for women run between Mangaluru and Kasaragod, a similar service was needed for women on select routes in the city. The caller sought a women’s special bus on Route No. 19, he said.

The caller also expressed the need of a phone-in programme by the Road Transport Department for airing suggestions and grievances.

Assistant Commissioner of Police K. Tilakchandra said that suggestions by the caller will be sent to the In-charge Senior Road Transport Officer G.S.Hegde.

A caller from Bejai spoke of the problem to pedestrians and motorists owing to waterlogging at the turn towards Kuntikana at the KSRTC Bejai junction.

Motorists are forced to come to the middle of the road and are finding it difficult to avoid splashing of water, the caller said.

Mr. Tilakchandra said that the police have already told the Mangaluru City Corporation officials to repair the road stretch. The police will write to MCC officials once again, he said.

A caller from Kodialguttu expressed the need of road hump on the road between Pinto Lane and Kodialguttu. He asked police to paint the humps that have been newly laid in several parts of the city.

Another caller said of the problem caused owing to parking of vehicles on both sides of the road near the Mangaluru District Prison.

There was also a complaint regarding street dogs on the road between Car Street and Basti Garden.
