Shiradi Ghat to remain closed as road improvement works will start today

January 20, 2018 01:18 am | Updated 01:18 am IST - MANGALURU

The Shiradi Ghat stretch on the Mangaluru-Hassan National Highway 75 will be closed for traffic from 6 a.m. on Saturday for highway improvement works. This is likely to increase traffic on the Sampaje and te Charmadi ghat roads.

It would also increase the journey hours between Mangaluru and Bengaluru depending on the alternative routes chosen by the travellers. Works would be taken up for upgrading the 13-km stretch from Kempu Hole guesthouse to Adda Hole as a concrete road.

According to Public Works Minister H.C. Mahadevappa, the works would have to be completed before this May. The stretch would be thrown open to traffic only after the carriageway works are completed.

Heavy vehicles have been advised to use Sampaje Ghat for onward journey. Light motor vehicles have been asked by the National Highways Division to use the Charmadi Ghat for their onward journey.
