The Polali Shastri Smaraka Samithi has chosen Talamaddale and discourse exponents Seraje Seetarama Bhat and Sarpangala Ishwara Bhat for this year’s Yakshagana Vachaspathi Polali Shankaranarayana Shastri Award.

A press release here said that the samithi was established in the memory of Late Polali Shastri (1897-1972), who was the doyen of Talamaddale and mythological discourse. Besides publishing Yakshagana Makaranda, a voluminous book on Yakshagana, the samithi has been presenting the Shastri Memorial Award for the last three decades.

Mr. Seetarama Bhat, hailing from Padyana-Seraje, has been an amateur Yakshagana artiste as well as interpreter. He was also known in the field of discourse. He has written 10 Yakshagana prasangas and translated Bhagavad Gita to Kannada, the release said.

A native of Nadusar near Vitla, Mr. Ishwara Bhat served as lecturer and principal in Kendriya Vidyalayas. He too is known as an Yakshagana artiste and interpreter.

Both of them have been conducting weekly discourse programmes at Polali Shastri’s discourse seat, Yeyyadi Sri Rama Mandira and other places.

The award, comprising a purse and a citation, would be presented to them at Kulai Vishnumurthy Temple on November 12, the release added.
