SC has given landmark verdict: Poojary

The verdict is not a victory or defeat for anybody, he says

Kota Srinivas Poojary, Minister for Ports and Fisheries, and Muzrai, said on Saturday that the Supreme Court had delivered a landmark judgment on the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid issue and had taken into account public opinion and belief into consideration.

Addressing presspersons here, Mr. Poojary said that it was heartening that all parties had accepted the verdict. The Hindus got the Ram Janmabhoomi site for construction of the temple. The Supreme Court directed that land be given to Muslims for the construction of a mosque. “There has been widespread acceptance of the verdict. This is nobody’s victory or defeat. It is a judicious verdict. On behalf of the BJP, I welcome the verdict. This is an occasion to show that the country is one,” he said.

On BJP leader and former Minister, K. Jayaprakash Hegde’s suggestion that the district in-charge Minister for Udupi district should be from here, Mr. Poojary said Mr. Hegde had given his suggestion from his long experience as a politician and Minister.

“But it is the Chief Minister’s prerogative to select the district in-charge Minister. The government and the party have to decide on it. If the Chief Minister and the party decide to make me the Udupi district in-charge Minister, I’m ready to accept it,” Mr. Poojary said.
