They come out in droves to celebrate

Amidst the pouring rain, hundreds of people turned up to perform yoga organised by different organisations across the city during the International Day of Yoga here on Friday. Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited celebrated the day by starting a week-long programme at the MRPL Employees Recreation Centre.

Uday Kumar from Mangalore University’s Department of Human Consciousness and Yogic Sciences, inaugurated the programme. MRPL Managing Director M. Venkatesh and Chief Vigilance Officer Rajeev Kushwah, were among the officers who attended the programme.

Staff from the Southern Railway and Konkan Railways jointly observed the day at the conference hall of RRM camp office in the city.

Pratap Singh Shami, Divisional Railway Manager, Southern Railway’s Palakkad Division, inaugurated the programme. Deputy Chief Medical Officer Steven George and Public Relations Officer Sudha Krishnamurti from Konkan Railways were also present.

Officers and personnel from different units of Indian Coast Guard, Karnataka, performed yoga at its headquarters in Panambur here. Among those who took part include personnel from the Coast Guard Air Enclave, 75 Air Cushion Vehicle Squadron and from Amarthya, Rajdoot and Savitribai Phule Indian Coast Guard Ships. Officiating Commander,Coast Guard Karnataka, Commandant RK Sharma, inaugurated the programme. Personnel on board Indian Coast Guard ships Vikram and Kasturba Gandhi performed yoga while on patrolling duty in the high sea.
