The police are verifying the purported video in circulation on WhatsApp about reported sloganeering in support of Pakistan during the celebration of Congress workers before the district party office here on Saturday.

The video circulated on WhatsApp groups shows the reported celebration of the former MLA, J.R. Lobo, and other Congress activists wherein one activist is heard raising slogan in support of Pakistan.

Police Commissioner Vipul Kumar said the police are verifying the authenticity of the video.

“We will take action against the person who has posted such a video on the group. Action will be taken against those who have forwarded it,” he said.

Mr. Kumar said the police will come down heavily on persons who are trying to circulate messages that would create tension in the area. Mr. Kumar said any person who receives such controversial videos and messages should forward it to the police and not circulate it.

The police said prima facie the video looks to be a doctored one. A case has been registered with the Manglauru East police and search was on for the perpetrators.
