Passenger facilitation fortnight concludes

June 10, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:36 am IST - MANGALURU:

Concluding the ‘Passenger Facilitation Fortnight’ that started on May 26, Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd. has felicitated Kumta Railway Station for having the best maintained assistant station master’s office, Bhatkal Railway Station for having the best maintained toilet, Karwar for having the best maintained retiring rooms and Udupi for having the best maintained stalls.

The beginning of the fortnight also coincided with the commencement of Silver Jubilee Celebrations of Konkan Railway, with the motto — Saadar Seva (service with courtesy). All the Railway Zones had observed the ‘Facilitation Fortnight’ as directed by Minister for Railways Suresh Prabhu to enhance customer facilities on Railway premises.

Konkan Railway had organised several programmes and undertook initiatives, including the massive Clean India Campaign, recognising employees for keeping work and residential areas clean, organising various competitions and health check up camps.

As a part of Clean India Campaign, KRCL has conceptualised Zero Waste Stations and installed bio-toilets at Kankavali, Sawantwadi, Chiplun, Karmali, Madgaon, Karwar and Byndoor. It would install bio-toilets in all stations gradually. While it has already installed a 250-kg capacity compost plant at Madgaon, it has plans to install ones at Nerul, Ratnagiri and Karwar.
