A man was arrested on the charge of kidnapping, raping and murdering a 21-year-old woman at Karikudlu near Goliangady village in Kundapur taluk on Thursday night.

The police said she was stalked by one Manikantha (23) while she was returning home from work at a hardware shop in Goliangady. He later allegedly raped and killed her.

“Manikantha had consumed alcohol,” said Circle Inspector P.M. Diwaker. The accused is said to have returned to Goliangady and sought the help of one Annappa to dispose of the body.

When the woman went missing, a massive search was launched. Her body was traced around 8 p.m., and after about three hours, the accused was arrested near Goliangady. Manikantha had been arrested last year for sexually harassing a woman. The woman is the daughter of a farm labourer.
