‘Opposition to Yettinahole project is emotional’

October 02, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:42 am IST - MANGALURU:

The Communist Party of India (Marxists) has said all arguments against the Yettinahole diversion project are “unscientific, pre-conceived, emotional and have regional narrow mindset”. The party arrived at this conclusion at a meeting of party leaders here on Tuesday.

Krishnappa Konchady, a member of district committee, who addressed the meeting said when weir was built across Yettinahalla it would result in re-charge of ground water and it would only help in increasing flow of water in all nearby streams including Kumaradhara river.

The Yettinahole project would be for mitigating drinking water needs of people in Bayaluseeme area. He said the usage of “Netravathi diversion” for the project was deceiving.

Mr. Konchady said that there was a need to build check dams to major rivers in Dakshina Kannada to increase drinking water table.
