As against the 27 names that were alleged to be duplicate in the electoral rolls in Mannagudde and Alape areas by a Bharatiya Janata Party supporter, the district administration has found only one name to be repeating in the two rolls.

On April 17, a day before polling, Vinay L. Shetty, a BJP supporter, filed a complaint with the Barke Police stating that residents of White Doves Homes were in the electoral roll pertaining to part No. 081 of Mannagudde area and part No. 191 of Alape village. Mr. Shetty alleged the residents were first in the Manngagudde list. Three months ago, the residents moved to Alape village and now some of them are in both the electoral rolls.

Mr. Shetty submitted copies of the rolls, showing names of residents in two electoral rolls, to the police.

The police registered a non-cognisable case and sought a report from the Assistant Returning Officer (ARO) of Mangaluru South Assembly constituency.

Talking to The Hindu , Sasikanth Senthil S., Deputy Commissioner and the Election Officer, said on Saturday that though no complaint was brought before him, an enquiry was initiated.

The Mangaluru South Assembly Constituency ARO checked the mother electoral roll of part No. 081 and found 24 names being deleted. These 24 names were among the list of deleted names that was annexed to the mother electoral roll. These 24 were now in the mother roll of part No. 191 of Alape village.

Mr. Senthil said two names remained in part No. 081 part and have not been added to the list in Alape. “Only one name was found in the both electoral rolls,” he said. Mr. Shetty has made the allegation without checking the mother electoral rolls of the two areas, he added.

Police Commissioner Sandeep Patil said police was waiting for the ARO’s report. Further action will be taken after looking into the ARO’s report, he said.
