The old bridge across the Phalguni (Gurupura) at Kuloor on National Highway 66 will soon be closed for traffic as the structure was found to be unsafe by the National Highways Authority of India, said Deputy Commissioner S. Sasikanth Senthil here.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Mr. Senthil said that NHAI found that the bridge has become weak during a recent survey of bridges under its network. He is waiting traffic plan from NHAI to issue a magisterial order to close down the bridge for vehicles.

The old bridge, on which traffic from Udupi to Mangaluru operates, was constantly in news for innumerable potholes and craters. After its closure, vehicles have to run on the two-lane bridge on which the Udupi-bound traffic operates at present.
