Alva’s Nudisiri-Virasat has dropped its practice of bringing the chief guest in a palanquin this time. Writer and president of Alva’s Nudisiri-Virasat B.A. Vivek Rai came to the venue along with other writers Nissar Ahmed, Kamala Hampana, Hampa Nagarajaiah, Channaveera Kanavi, Vaidehi, G. Venkatasubbaiah and Srikeshtra Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Veerendera Heggade. They were all led to the stage by Alva Education Foundation Chairman Mohan Alva.

A few days ago, writers participating in two-day literary programme Jana Nudi in Mangalore demanded an end to all forms of palanquin processions. On Wednesday, Vishvesha Thirtha Swami from Pejawar Math had asked Alva Nudisri-Virasat organisers not to carry persons in a palanquin.

Mr. Rai said he agreed to preside over the four-day meet only after the organisers assured him that he would not be carried in a palanquin.
