The district administration has sought to clarify that there will be no room for spectators at the Mysuru racecourse where 60,000 yoga performers will attempt to create a world record on June 21 on International Yoga Day.
“We would like to appeal to the public to be prepared for performing simple asanas if they are coming to racecourse on June 21. There is no room for spectators at the venue,” said Janaradhan, Deputy Director of Tourism, Mysuru. The gates to the racecourse will open by 4.30 a.m. and will close by 6.45 a.m. The yoga performance will begin by 7 a.m., he said.
The rehearsals held on Sunday morning attracted more than 22,000 yoga enthusiasts, but created traffic hurdles near the racecourse. Mr. Janardhan said steps were being taken to prevent traffic snarls on June 21. Registrations for the event have crossed 47,000. The district administration plans to beat the existing record of 35,985 yoga performers. Each participant will have to enter the racecourse with a ticket. “Participation is free, but we are issuing tickets for headcount,” Mr. Janardhan said.
Around 1,200 stewards have been appointed to oversee the performance, which is expected to last about 45 minutes. “Each steward will be allocated about 50 performers.
