Nisha James took charge as the Superintendent of Police of Udupi district here on Saturday. Laxman B. Nimbargi handed over the charge to her.
An IPS officer of the 2013 batch, Ms. James, a native of Kerala, completed her education in New Delhi. She served as probationary officer at Hiriyur in Chitradurga district.
After she was promoted as the Superintendent of Police, she worked in the Intelligence Department. She had also served as Superintendent of Police of Raichur. She served in the India Reserve Battalion in Munnirabad for a year and also as Commandant of 4th Battalion of KSRP, Bengaluru.
Speaking to presspersons after taking charge, Ms. James said she would give priority to maintaining law and order and that stern action would be taken against criminal and communal elements.
She said she would also focus on issues relating to women. Ms. James had started the Keladi Chennamma force when she was posted in Sagar as Assistant Superintendent of Police.
She said that the police phone-in programme would continue.
