An accused in the three-year-old murder case of a Bajrang Dal activist and a leader of the right wing outfit were attacked in Dakshina Kannada on Monday.

According to the police, both the injured were admitted to private hospitals in the city. They are out of danger.

The police said that Imtiyaz (43), an accused in the murder of Bajrang Dal activist Prashant Poojary in Moodbidri in 2015, was attacked by five persons as soon as he opened his roadside hotel to make tea for some customers at about 6 a.m. on Monday.

In what is perceived to be a retaliation, Harish Shetty (35), convenor of Bajrang Dal’s Gurupura unit, was attacked by two motorcycle-borne men at Suralpady, near Bajpe-Kaikamba, in Mangaluru taluk at about 8 p.m.

Both the incidents took place under the jurisdiction of Mangaluru Police Commissionerate.

Mangaluru Police Commissioner T.R. Suresh said that those who attacked Imtiyaz came by a car. They attacked and left the place in about two minutes. Imtiyaz was hit on his left hand as he was trying to avoid being hit on his head. Just as the group left, Imtiyaz went to a local hospital for treatment.
