Money stolen through debit card

Unknown persons have fraudulently used Rs. 43,000 from the debit card of an individual from Mangaluru on Friday.

Akanksh Gupta, in his complaint to the Mangaluru North police, said that he got message on his cell phone about the usage of his debit card on June 19. He immediately called the customer care number of the bank and got the card blocked before lodging a complaint with the police on Sunday.The miscreants have used the money in the complainant’s account with a private bank having its branch in Hampanakatte in Mangaluru.

Foreign currency seized

Custom officials seized foreign currency equivalent to Rs. 7, 54,411 from a passenger at Mangaluru International Airport on Sunday when he was allegedly attempting to “smuggle them out of the country without valid documents.”

The foreign currency seized included 18,250 Saudi Arabian Riyals, 1,075 UAE Dirhams, 860 Kuwait Dinars, 3,650 Qatar Riyals, 735 Omani Riyals, 55 Bahrain Dinars and 500 US Dollars in various denominations.

They were seized from the passenger Abdul Kader Perumbala from Kasaragod, Kerala, while he was departing to Dubai through an Air India Express flight IX 813.

He had concealed them in his checked-in baggage without valid documents, a release by V. Selvadurai, Assistant Commissioner of Customs, Mangaluru International Airport, said in the release on Monday

Ganja arrest

The Udupi district police arrested two persons on the charge of illegally ferrying and trying to sell ganja at Ambagilu on Monday.

Acting on a tip off, the police arrested two persons near Ambagilu fish market and seized 500 grams of ganja from them.

They have been identified as Nimayi alias Balram (40), resident of Gangarampur, Malda district, West Bengal, and Srikanth (27), resident of Khagchirag in Malda District.

The ganja seized has been valued at Rs. 3,500. The police also seized two mobile telephones from them. A case had been registered against the duo under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act 1985 and investigations were on, the police said.

Shop burgled

Some persons broke into a travel agency shop at Karavali Junction and decamped with Rs. 1.78 lakh in cash here.

The district police said the burglars broke into the Anand Travels shop between 5.30 p.m. on June 20 and 8.45 a.m. on June 22.

A case had been registered at the Udupi Town Police Station and investigations were on.
