MLA reviews works at Old Port

MLA J.R. Lobo directed officials from the Fisheries Department to submit a proposal to the government about improving roads in the Old Port Area. In a meeting held at the Fisheries Department office on Friday, fishermen complained against officials for not taking up the third phase of desilting work in the Old Port area. Mr. Lobo asked officials to extend till June 10 the process of legitimising documents of fishing boats operating from the port, a release said.

Census data

Preliminary data of 2011 census was available in the electronic format on the website www.censusindia.gov.in. The district-wise census data with maps of district and taluks was available in printed form at a nominal cost at the Census Directorate office in the seventh E and F floors of the Kendriya Sanda in Koramangala. Voter list errors

The district administration has asked people to inform booth level officers of instances where names of voter is found twice in a voter list. In a release, Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim said that no voter could retain his name in the electoral roll of a panchayat and also be a voter in a city, which was a violation of Representation of Peoples Act 1950.

Admission to schools

The District Social Welfare Officer has invited applications of students from Scheduled Caste for admission for class 6 in various private schools in district. Applications can be filed for seats in Sharada Vidyalaya in Mangaluru, Sharada Ganapati Vidyakendra in Kairangala in Bantwal, Balavikasa English Medium School in Mani, JC English Medium School and S.V.S English Medium School, both in Vitla. The last date for submission of applications was May 30, a release said.

Book release

The Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy and Dwani Pratishtana will be jointly releasing the book ‘Kabitele Gonchal Oorett Kannda Siri’ of Prakasha Rao Payyar on Saturday. Alva’s Education Foundation’s Chairman Mohan Alva will release the book. The function will be held at the Academy’s office in Lalbagh at 3.30 p.m.

Grant

MLC Ivan D’Souza laid foundation stone for construction of a shelter at the Hindu Burial Ground in Attavar on Friday. Mr. D’Souza has granted Rs. 5.36 lakh from his area development funds for the purpose, according to a press release.
