Minor fire outbreaks at eight places in Udupi

The cause is yet to be ascertained

Minor fire outbreaks were reported from eight areas in Udupi district having dry grass and bushes, including four places in Udupi city.

An outbreak was reported near the Mahatma Gandhi Bayalu Ranga Mandira at Beedinagudde here. This area had dry grass and some waste is also dumped here.

On receiving the information, fire tenders rushed to the spot and brought it under control.

Outbreaks were reported in the shrubs at Ananth Nagar in Manipal and at Indrali and at a field near Kalsank here.

But fire tenders managed to bring it under control in these places.

There was an outbreak in a field at Nadsal village near Padubidri, which too was tackled by a fire tender. Though the reason for the outbreak is not known, the blaze spread due to winds. However there had been no casualties, the Fire and Emergency Services Department said.

“Sometimes people set fire to their fields to clean the dry grass. But there are winds blowing today and this leads to fire getting spread,” said Vasanth Kumar, District Fire and Emergency Services Officer.
