Minister in-charge of Dakshina Kannada B. Ramanath Rai said here on Friday that he did not rule out a “political conspiracy” over the stalling of renovation work of the town hall.
Responding to a question by a BJP councillor at a meeting at the corporation, the Minister said that “political system is invisible” and hence it (stalling the works) could be due to the “political conspiracy” also, he said.
He said that the delay was also due to the negligence by an “upright officer” who was with the corporation.
“Like you we were also under the impression that the officer was very upright. If it was so the officer should have got it (renovation works) completed at the earliest and the administration at the corporation should have been very active,” he said. In a recent press conference the Minister had said that “an upright officer” had stalled the renovation works.
Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim said that he was not aware about any letter written by the former Commissioner Hephsiba Rani Korlapati to the government with regard to the town hall issue.
Leader of the Opposition BJP in the council Sudhir Shetty Kannur said that as the town hall has been closed since September, 2014 and many artistes and organisations do not have an alternative hall to conduct programmes. Staging of yakshagana programmes in rainy season has been mainly hit, he said.
