Mangaluru International Airport has bagged the World Quality Commitment award in Gold category instituted by the Madrid-based private organisation Business Initiative Directions (BID).

Addressing presspersons on the sidelines of a programme to celebrate the award, at the airport on Thursday, J.T. Radhakrishna, Director of the airport, said they hadn’t applied for the award. The BID selected the airport, the only airport from India, on its own.

The director received the award at a function at Paris, France on October 25. He said the BID took the decision to present the award “following the research and analysis carried out by quality hunters, entrepreneurs, and experts in quality to recognise the contribution of Mangaluru International Airport in terms of leadership, quality and excellence.”

The selection was made on the basis of criteria of total quality management, ISO certification, customer satisfaction, business results, and continuous developments for passenger amenities, innovation, growth and facilities to stakeholders, he said.

The director said the staff of the Airports Authority of India, airlines and the Central Industrial Security Force have contributed to maintain the quality of service and cleanliness at the airport.
