Man, wife held on charge of murdering senior citizen

The police have arrested a man and his wife in connection with the murder of 80-year-old Ratnavati G. Shetty at Subramanya Nagar here between July 2 and 5 this year.

A press release issued by the district police here on Wednesday said that the two accused had been identified as Ambanna alias Ambarish alias Ambanna Basappa Jadar alias Shiva (31) and his wife, Rashida alias Khaji alias Jyoti (26).

The arrests were made by the district police with the help of the Goa Police at Santa Cruz coming under the Old Goa Police Station limits in Goa on July 9.

They were produced before a court here on Wednesday, which remanded them in police custody.

The two confessed that they had seen Ratnavati Shetty wearing gold ornaments and concluded that there must be more gold in her house, the police said. They murdered the woman in her house and decamped with gold ornaments. Ratnavati Shetty was staying alone in her house. Ambanna had a police case each against him in Hubballi, Vijayapura, Badami and Mangaluru, the release said.
