Man sentenced to two years imprisonment

Principal District and Sessions Judge Kadloor Sathyanarayana Acharya on Saturday sentenced Rama Nalke to two years on finding him guilty of cruelty to his wife that led to her death.

According to the chargesheet by the Kavoor police, Nalke had a quarrel on May 17, 2018, with his wife Mohini when she questioned him on coming home with liquor.

Nalke assaulted his wife and her relatives found her unconscious the next morning and shifted her to a nearby hosptial where she died.

Nalke was arrested and charged under the Sections 302 and 498 (a) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC)

The judge sentenced Nalke to two years imprisonment and fined him ₹5,000 fine for the offence under Section 498 (A) of the IPC.

He was also sentenced to two years imprisonment for the offence under Section 304 (part 2) ( an act likely to cause death but without any intention to cause death) of the IPC. Substantial sentence of imprisonment shall run concurrently, the Judge said.

The judge directed the District Legal Services Authority to consider paying compensation to their two children under the Karnataka Victim Compensation Scheme.
