A special POCSO Court here convicted a 25-year-old man for raping a minor and sentenced him to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment with a fine of ₹5,000.

The II Additional District and Sessions Judge and Special Judge for POCSO cases B.R. Pallavi passed the orders against Nagappa, native of Ganthugola in Lingasugur taluk of Raichur district and presently resident of Muchchur-Neerude.

According to the prosecution, the accused raped the minor girl when she was alone at home early on April 21, 2016. He continued to rape her on subsequent occasions, following which the girl became pregnant.

After she revealed the incident to parents, a case was registered with the Bajpe police.

Meanwhile, the girl had a miscarriage in the fourth month of pregnancy.

Though the victim, her parents and neighbours failed to adduce proper evidence, the prosecution relied upon evidences by doctors, investigating officers and the DNA report, which was upheld by the court.
