Man, daughter injured in road accident

Van driver lost control of vehicle while returning home with his daughter after a visit to Mangalore University for admission

A 53-year-old resident of Katpadi near Udupi and his 18-year-old daughter were seriously injured after the van they were in hit a stationary lorry in Pavanje near Mulky on Wednesday.

The Mangaluru North Traffic Police said Jagadish Pai had taken his daughter to Mangalore University for admission. They were returning home in the car when Mr. Pai lost control over the vehicle and hit the lorry parked by the roadside, the police said.

Both have been admitted to a private hospital near Kuntikana and are in the intensive care unit, the police said.

Man stabbed

A 20-year-old man died after her was stabbed near the Town Hall on Wednesday.

The Mangaluru South Police said Ranjit, a resident of Mogaveerpatna, managed to enter the premises of Mangaluru Taluk Panchayat after the attack. The police said he collapsed at the rear of the building. A few persons saw him and he told them the situation before losing consciousness. His narration was recorded on a mobile phone. They moved him to the Government Wenlock Hospital where Ranjit died.

The police said they were yet to know the reason for the attack and investigation was on. Ranjit was a member of a social organisation in Ullal.

Minor raped

The police has arrested a person on the charge of raping a 16-year-old girl in a village in Kundapur taluk.

The police said Abdul Fauzana (23), a welder, used to visit the house of the girl. He had sexually assaulted her and threatened her against revealing it. The minor is now seven months pregnant. Fauzana was produced before the District and Sessions Court here on Wednesday, which remanded him in judicial custody till June 17.
