The Karavali Karnataka Janabhivridhi Vedike has come out in support of the members of families displaced for the Mangalore Special Economic Zone (MSEZ) project who staged a protest against MSEZ on Tuesday.
Vedike spokesperson Natesh Ullal told presspersons here on Tuesday that the protest had made it clear that MSEZ had “no intention” of providing jobs as documents submitted by them in 2007 proved that there were very few jobs on offer.

Mr. Ullal held Deputy Speaker N. Yogish Bhat and Minister for Higher Education V.S. Acharya responsible for the predicament facing students as the two leaders were “staunch supporters” of the MSEZ. “We will give them 10 days time to give jobs to the students,” he said.
Activist Vidya Dinker said that the MSEZ was technology-intensive project and according to documents, the proposed aromatics complex would hire 278 people and the Indian Strategic Petroleum Reserves Ltd. would hire only 28 people. He said the activists were against acquisition of land for the MSEZ but had offered to support students on a moral ground. The vedike demanded that the notification of land for the second phase be withdrawn. Ms. Dinkar said over three months had passed since the Chief Minister had assured that the land for the second would be de-notified.
