Firan Kumar Jha and his wife Anjali Devi are yet to come to terms with the loss of her three-year-old daughter Priyanka five months ago. “Till our death, her memory will continue with us. We still relate to many of her activities in the house,” said Mr. Jha.

The couple were at the office of the Assistant Commissioner Prabhulinga Kavalikatti on Friday to receive compensation from the State Government.

Mr. Kavalikatti presented the couple with a cheque for Rs. 2 lakh as announced by Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa during his earlier visit.

Priyanka was sacrificed allegedly by Kamalaksha Purusha (74) and Chandrakala (24) in Sharabatkatte in Mangalore (East) police station limits on December 17. The accused, who were Mr. Jha's neighbour, had dumped Priyanka's body in a rivulet. The police have filed charge sheet against the two accused for murder.

Mr. Jha said the Child Welfare Committee had assured them of paying stipend of Rs. 500 every month to his elder son Pankaj (6) for his education.

Mr. Jha said he was searching for another house as Madhava Purusha, his landlord and brother of Kalamalaksha Purusha, has asked him to vacate. “Our 11 months styin the house is coming to an end this month. Our owner asked me to vacate saying that he wants to carry out repairs,” Mr. Jha said. He was looking for a house that is near to Pankaj's school.
