Left candidates file papers in Dakshina Kannada

Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate K.Yadav Shetty and independent candidate Sudatta Jain filed their nomination papers for the Dakshina Kannada Lok Sabha constituency, with the district election officer in Mangalore on Monday.

S. Vijaya Kumar of Communist Party of India (CPI) submitted his nominations papers for the Udupi-Chikmagalur parliamentary seat in Udupi on Monday.

An independent candidate, Sundar Kumar, also filed his nomination papers for the constituency. The last date for filing of nomination papers is March 26.

Mr. Shetty (50), a full-time party worker, has assets of Rs. 1.26 lakh with liabilities at Rs. 1.45 lakh, while his wife has assets worth Rs. 19.45 lakh — most of it coming in the form of non-agricultural land at Puttige village — in her name.

Mr. Jain (37), a hotel worker and State Chief Secretary of the labour organisation Akhila Bharat Karmika Sangha, has declared assets worth Rs. 53,100 — with loans of over Rs. 50,000 – while his wife has Rs. 45,000 worth property.

Udupi-Chikmagalur candidate Mr. Kumar has served as the Assistant Secretary of both taluk and district units of CPI in Chikmagalur.

He has been associated with agitations against eviction of people living in forests and for provision of better facilities to workers of gram panchayats. He also worked for the organisation of coffee growers.
