Region is known for its unity in diversity: Minister

Dakshina Kannada is known for nurturing rich Kannada literature and its various cultures. This identity should be retained and not tarnished, said Minister for Ports, Fisheries and Muzrai Kota Srinivasa Poojary here on Friday.

Speaking at the Rajyotsava Day celebrations at the Nehru Maidan, Mr. Poojary, who is also Minister in charge of Dakshina Kannada, said that the district has seen varied languages, religions, and cultures.

Writers from Dakshina Kannada have brought laurels to the State with their works. People from the region should keep caste and religious differences aside and foster brotherhood. “We should work towards building a strong State and provide good environment for Kannadigas to prosper,” he said. Mr. Poojary said the district Rajyotsava awards for this year will be given in 2020.

Earlier, many students took part in the procession containing tabuleux related to the State’s culture and heritage. The procession was from Ambedkar Circle to Nehru Maidan. Mr. Poojary unfurled the national flag and witnessed the ceremonial parade and cultural programme.

The tableau by SDM Law College was adjudged as the best, while tableau of the Department of Health and Family Welfare took the second place. The NCC Air wing senior group was adjudged as the best marching contingent. Mr. Poojary honoured these teams and the groups that presented the cultural programme.
