Khader flays attempts to confine yoga to a particular religion

June 11, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - MANGALURU:

Minister for Health and Family Welfare U.T. Khader on Wednesday condemned attempts to confine yoga to a particular religion. “Yoga is a form of exercise that is good for health,” he said here. “What cannot be cured by medicine can be cured by practising yoga,” he said, and added that medicine and education should not be painted with religious colour.

“Doing yoga does improve your health,” the Minister said, and cited his own example. “I got my weight reduced from 95 kg to 75 kg by doing yoga, walking and following a strict diet,” he said. Mr. Khader said on June 21 a programme would be held in Bengaluru to mark International Yoga Day. It would be inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who, he said, practices yoga.
