Ravi Krishna Reddy, president of the Karnataka Rashtra Samithi, a political party, said on Wednesday that the samithi would contest the by-polls to the 17 Assembly seats expected to be announced shortly in the State.
Addressing presspersons here, Mr. Reddy said that the party would also be contesting in the elections to the municipal corporations in the State.
The party was finalising the list of candidates for the bypolls and for the municipal corporations, he said.
The party was launched in Bengaluru on August 10, 2019. The party wanted to fight corruption and also to ensure transparency, probity and accountability in public life. It wanted to protect Kannada language, the people and the natural resources of the State, he said.
The major political parties were steeped in corruption as was illustrated by incidents such as Operation Lotus and telephone tapping scandal. The “high command” culture in politics was prevalent in these parties. They always danced to the tunes of their leaders in Delhi. This was weakening the federal structure of the country, Mr. Reddy said.
Amrit Shenoy and S.H. Lingegowda, vice-president of the samithi, were among those present.
