Jeppu, Bejai markets to be ready in a month

Market buildings at Jeppu and Bejai in the city will be ready for inauguration after a month, according to N. Shiva Shankar Swami, Deputy Commissioner (Development), Mangaluru City Corporation.

He told a meeting presided over by B. Ramanath Rai, Minister in-charge of Dakshina Kannada, on Friday that building works of markets were on the verge of completing.

Mohammed Nazeer, Commissioner, Mangaluru Urban Development Authority, said that the technical sanction for constructing a modern market building at Urwa Stores at an estimated Rs. 12 crore had been obtained. The project proposal has been sent to the government for administrative approval.

The detailed project report of another market building proposed at Urwa Market at an estimated Rs. 24 crore has been sent to the Public Works Department for technical approval. Later it would have to be sent to the government for administrative approval.

The works could be taken up once the government cleared them, he said.

Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim said that there was a need to have visionary projects for the city. It included a ring road to ease traffic in the central business district areas of the city, flyovers, a truck terminal, markets outside the city and a bus stand.
