Owing to constraints in his house that included looking after his father who had met with an accident, Siddarth V. had to miss classes in Class 11 at the Kendriya Vidyalaya. He then opted out of the school and chose to study under the National Institute of Open School.
“I prepared on my own for Class 11 and Class 12,” said Siddarth, who admits being distracted during the preparation. “But still I managed to get good score.” With assistance from city-based Centre for Advanced Learning (CFAL), Siddarth has now got ranking of 3946 in the Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced) -2015. “I am sure of getting a seat in the National Institute of Technology-Surthakal,” he said. Siddharth has a flair for computer science. “I am also eager to pursue course in BITS-Pilani that many of my seniors recommend.”
Siddarth, the elder of two sons of K. Thampan, an employee of Meteorological Department and Pushpalata V., a home maker, is among the nine students from CFAL who figure among the 8,000 of the ranks announced following the JEE (Advanced) examination results, which were released on Thursday evening. Students get admission to Indian Institutes of Technology, BITS Pilani and other institutions based on this ranking.
A majority among these rank holders want to pursue computer science. “Unlike other courses, we learn what is in practice,” said Vilas M., a student of Lourdes Central School, who has secured 2507 rank. Vilas is keeping option of pursuing computer science in Indian Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad.
Leon Fernandes, who is also from Lourdes Central School, also wants to pursue computer science. “With ranking of 1661, I hope to pursue the course in IIT Khanpur,” said Mr. Fernanedes, who is sure of getting seat in computer science in the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru.
Shriganesh N., who has secured 7941 rank, wants to be in teaching field and hence aspiring for a seat in the Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research. “For long, I have been fascinated about teaching,” says Shriganesh, whose father Shrikrishna N. is a teacher in the Kittel Memorial High School Gorigudde. Shriganesh has taken few classes for students preparing for IIT Joint Entrance Examination.
