Health Minister to review dengue situation in Mangaluru

Health and Family Welfare Minister, U.T. Khader will hold a meeting with officials and public representatives at different places in Mangaluru on Tuesday and review the situation due to Dengue and other communicable diseases.

According to District Health Officer Ramakrishna Rao, the Minister will first hold the meeting in Belthangady, which has been tentatively scheduled at 10 a.m. This will be followed by meetings in Bantwal, Puttur and Sullia at 12.30 p.m., 2.30 p.m. and 4.30 p.m. respectively.

Dr. Rao said the Minister will meet local health officials, panchayat development officers, public representatives.

Dr. Rao said that as on June 15, 55 persons were found positive by ELISA test for Dengue, a virus transmitted following infective bite of Aedes Aegypti mosquito. There are as many as 381 persons being treated for suspected Dengue viral infection as the primary screening NS1 test has shown presence of Dengue antigen in their serum. Dengue can be confirmed only after the ELISA test on these patients done after five days of fever shows anti-bodies.
