February 15, 2012 01:54 pm | Updated 01:54 pm IST - MANGALORE:

Minister for Higher Education V.S. Acharya visited Mangalore last on Monday to participate in a convention of exporters.

While addressing the gathering at the TMA Pai International Convention Centre, he had stressed on the need for coal-based power generation in this belt. He had said that since there was no gas and atomic based power project and no major hydroelectric project here, the option was to go for coal-based power project. “Don't create problems for power generation. How do you get power without coal? If there are any environmental concerns we will attend to it,” he had said. Vice-Chancellor of Mangalore University T.C. Shivashankara Murthy said that Dr. Acharya's death was a loss.
