Group assaults lecturer, vandalises house

A group of seven persons allegedly assaulted a nursing college lecturer and his friends and vandalised the lecturer’s house during a birthday party on Saturday night.

The Mangaluru Rural police have arrested five persons allegedly involved in the incident.

According to the Mangaluru Rural Police, Arun Kumar, a lecturer in the City Nursing College, had called his friends for a birthday party at his house in Shakti Nagar.

Around 12.30 a.m., seven persons, who were allegedly drunk, came to the house and as Arun opened the door, they questioned him for partying late in the night.

The police said that Dikshit, who was among the seven persons, allegedly took a cricket bat and hit Arun’s friend, Jobin, on his head and shoulders. Then the group allegedly assaulted Arun and other persons partying in the house. The group also allegedly damaged a television, a home theatre system, doors and the flooring.

On the complaint by Arun, the police have arrested Dikshit (24), Sudharshan (21), Praveen Salian (27), Prashant (21) and Naveen (22). They are searching for two more persons allegedly involved.
