GP member murdered

A 55-year-old member of Golitottu gram panchayat was murdered allegedly by his son near Uppinangady on Thursday night.

According to Uppinangady police, Gangadhara Gowda used to quarrel frequently with his father Sanjeeva Gowda objecting to his habit of spending money for others. On Thursday, an argument broke out between them and the accused reportedly hit his father with a stick. Sanjeeva Gowda succumbed to injuries.

Gangadhara Gowda was arrested and the jurisdictional court remanded him in judicial custody. Sanjeeva Gowda was president of Golitottu gram panchayat last year.

Chain snatched

Two motorcyclists snatched a gold chain from 52-year-old Breta D'souza near Bajpe Church on Thursday afternoon and sped away. The Mangalore (East) police said the gold chain was worth Rs. 1.3 lakh.
