Gold chain snatched

A motorcycle-borne man snatched the gold chain of a woman returning to her house after a morning walk on Tuesday.

According to Mangaluru East police, Shobha Karunakar went on a morning walk around 5.30 a.m. on the Shivabagh – Bendoorwell road and reached Bunts Hostel Circle. She returned on the same road towards her house.

As she was crossing Shivabagh 5{+t}{+h}cross around 7 a.m., the man came towards her and snatched her gold chain weighing around 40 grams. She tried chasing him, but in vain. The police are searching for the chain snatcher.

Suicide

A 45-year-old labourer was found dead in his house in Konalu village in Uppinangady police station limits on Tuesday. The Uppinangady police said Leo D’ Souza, who tapped rubber, was lying unconscious on the floor after consuming a poisonous substance.

His wife Leena D’Souza took the help of their neighbours to shift her husband to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead.

Gold stolen

A gang of persons broke into a house at Karimar Katte coming under Karkala rural police station limits and decamped with gold jewellery worth Rs. 3.82 lakh.

According to the police, they broke into the house of Sujatha K. Shetty at Karimar Katte between 11.30 p.m. on May 25 and 5 a.m. on May 26. A case had been registered at Karkala rural police station and investigations were on, the police said.
