Gaiety marks Kulshekar church centenary celebrations

The centenary of the Holy Cross Church, Cordel, Kulshekar was celebrated with pomp and gaiety here on Saturday.

Devotees had gathered in large number in the open ground opposite to the Church, the venue of the function. Deputy Speaker N. Yogish Bhat, High Court Judge B.A. Pinto and Inspector General of Police (Western Range) Pratap Reddy participated in the function.

The celebrations began with sound and light show depicting the history of Church. This was followed by felicitation to St. Aloysius Institution's Rector Father Joseph Rodrigues and former Parish Priests Valerian D'Souza, Gregory William Vaz and Laurence D'Souza. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Bhat recalled the contribution of the church in the field of education, healthcare and other social sectors.

Mr. Bhat said the church has been spreading love among people, which was being conveyed in the theme song for the centenary celebration, he said. Bishop of Shimoga Gerald Issac Lobo asked people to continue with the good deeds that the church has undertaken. “We have to go this way in order to lead a righteous life,” he said and asked devotees to help the poor.

Mr. Pinto, Mr. Reddy, Mangalore Bishop Aloysius Paul D'Souza, and Parish Priest Valerian Pinto also spoke. Cordel-100, a Cordeal Parish Directory, was released. Foundation stone for Holy Rosary Park was also laid. There was cultural programme by ICYM and YCS's Cordel Unit.
