The Communist Party of India (CPI) activists on Friday carried out a demonstration demanding the stoppage of eviction of forest dwellers in case of declaration of their areas as eco-sensitive areas as mentioned in the Kasturirangan Committee Report.

H.V. Rao, CPI district committee member, said several families living in the forest face displacement, if the State government implements the report. These forest dwellers have every right to seek their living in the forest and should not be displaced, they said.

The CPI activists also want the State to not take action against poor farmers, who cultivated government land. The State should take action against realtors who have illegally encroached upon government land, they said.
