Fish carnival at Pilikula on Sunday

A fish carnival will be organised at Dr. Shivarama Karantha Pilikula Nisargadama here on May 17. Addressing presspersons here recently, chairman of Dr. Shivarama Karantha Pilikula Nisargadama Society and Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim said that the carnival, which would begin at 9 a.m., would go on throughout the day. Angling at the Pilikula lake would be a major attraction at the carnival. Anglers can catch pomfret, cuttle fish, seer fish, rohu and common carp from the lake.

Participation fee

Those who would like to participate in it would have to pay a fee of Rs. 100 per person.

The fish caught by the participants would be sold. Of the proceeds earned by it, half would have to be paid to the society and the remaining half would be given to the angler. There would be three platforms with security measures for angling.

He said that there would an exhibition and sale of ornamental fish. In addition, the Department of Fisheries would have an exhibition to create awareness on fish farming.

Mr. Ibrahim said that there would be a sale of value added products of fish and fish food. He said that fish sellers from outside could also sell fish at the carnival.

He said that fish fry, fish masala and fish kabab would be sold at the venue. The Deputy Commissioner said that the society would organise Vasanthotsava at Pilikula in June. There would be jackfruit and mango mela as well.S.A. Prabhakara Sharma, Executive Director of the Nisargadhama, and H.J. Bhandary, Director, Pilikula Biological Park, were present.
