Financier arrested on murder charge

The City Police on Monday arrested Bipin Rai, proprietor of Yashoda Krishna Finance, Pumpwell, on charges of murder of Abdul Hamid (47), a resident of Bunder.

Rai had been absconding ever since the murder came to light on October 7, 2014, and the police had issued a lookout circular after learning that he had fled to Thailand.

The immigration officials at the Mangaluru International Airport handed over Rai to the Mangaluru Rural police after he arrived from Thailand via Dubai on Monday. The accused has now been remanded in judicial custody.

Hamid’s body was found with multiple injuries inflicted by sharp weapons at an isolated place in Vaidyanathanagara near Shaktinagar. His wife, Sabeena, had lodged a complaint with the police that Hamid had got loan from a financier and he must have been murdered for non-payment of the money. The Mangaluru Rural police registered a murder case.

During the investigation, the police learnt that Hamid had availed himself of a loan from Rai and he had failed to repay. They also learnt that Rai gave ‘supari’ to Harish Kembaru and Abihshek Naguri to kill Hamid. The duo confessed to the police that Rai and Harish Sapalya had paid money to them to kill Hamid. The police also arrested Sapalya and recovered weapons and vehicles used for the murder on October 10, 2014. However, Rai was still at large.

Ganja sezied

The Mangaluru North Police on Sunday arrested two persons on charges of possessing 2.35 g ganja worth Rs. 20,000 in Bunder area and seized material worth Rs. 75,000. The police gave the names of the accused as Farooq (47), resident of Ansari Cross, Bunder and Mohammed Iqbal (32), resident of Kasaba Bengre.

Girl kidnapped

A nine-year-old girl from Krishnapura, studying Class 4 in a nearby school, was allegedly kidnapped by unknown people on Friday. However, the miscreants left the girl within 30 minutes. The girl told her parents that a person riding a motorcycle made her to inhale some substance and thereafter she was taken in a car to a forest area.

They then threatened her with a knife and asked her to call her father demanding ransom. All of a sudden, they took her in the car and dropped near the residence.

Burglary

Thieves broke into two different shops and took away valuables worth Rs. 4.18 lakh, in two incidents here.

According to the district police, thieves broke into Shreyas Mobiles shop at Kalsanka between 1.30 p.m. on June 28 and 9 a.m. on June 29 and made good with 31 mobile telephones, eight chargers, 14 battery sets, nine memory cards, four pen-drives. The value of these stolen items together is estimated at Rs. 2.32 lakh.

In another incident, thieves broke into Jaladurgi Sales shop at Krishnanurgraha Complex in Gundibail area between 5.30 p.m. on June 27 and 9.45 a.m. on June 29 and decamped with bulbs, fans and other electrical equipments. The value of the stolen items had been estimated at Rs. 1.85 lakh.
