Fight between siblings ends in man’s death

An alleged drunken brawl between a 32-year-old man and his elder brother ended in the death of the latter in Bannur village in Puttur Town police station limits on Sunday night.

According to Superintendent of Police Sharanappa S.D., Somnath (32) and his brother Raghunath (33) were having drunken brawls over the last few days.

On Sunday night, Somnath and Raghunath allegedly had a heated exchange of words in the bedroom. In a fit of rage, Somanth allegedly took a sharp object and pierced his brother’s left ear by pushing him down to the floor. Mr. Sharanappa said that Raghunath died following severe loss of blood. Neighbours who heard the screams rushed to the house and informed the police. The Puttur Town Police have arrested Somnath.

lightning strike

A 45-year-old man died in a lightning strike in Olamogaru village in Puttur police station limits on Sunday. The police identified the victim as Harish Nayak. The police said that Harish had been to his relative’s house for a function on Sunday evening. After being struck by lightning, Nayak turned unconscious and fell on the floor. He died before being taken to a nearby hospital, the police added.

Five injured

Five persons were injured following an accident involving a KSRTC bus and two tempos on Monday. According to the Puttur Traffic police, the bus, bound to Pallathur from Puttur, suddenly stopped near Mukrampady. A tempo that was following the bus crashed into it. The tempo was hit by another tempo that was carrying gravel. Five persons in the two tempos suffered minor injuries. The traffic on this busy road was affected for nearly an hour, the police said.

Vehicle damaged

The vehicle of Surathkal Police Inspector Nataraj was damaged after it was hit by a bus near Suraj Hotel in Surathkal on Monday. According to the Mangaluru North traffic police, the driver of a private bus, bound for the city, turned right in order to avoid hitting a motorcycle going ahead. The bus then hit a median and moved back to hit Nataraj’s vehicle. Nobody was injured in the incident, the police said.
