A few students who received marks cards stating they had failed their PU and SSLC board examinations have learned that they have passed by a huge margin — as much as 80 marks. Officials with the Department of Primary and Secondary Education said that evaluators would be penalised for errors committed either during evaluation or totalling.
Prajwal, a student of Sri Veerendra Patil PU College located at Sadashivnagar, approached the Department of Pre-University Education when he saw he had scored only 15 marks for the English paper. When he got a copy of his answer script, he learned that he had actually scored 65 marks. Despite this error, he has been told that he will have to apply for revaluation if his marks need to be changed. Department officials say they cannot change marks unless the student applies for revaluation. In another case, an SSLC student was awarded 11 marks for first language paper, but when he approached the board, he learned he had scored 91.
