DC hails Red Cross Society work; says more needs to be done

Election to get members to the new governing body to be held on November 1

October 03, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:41 am IST - MANGALURU:

Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim, who is the Chairman of district branch of Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), urged the members to have a vision and agenda for the next three years, when a new governing body would be in place after scheduled elections on November 1.

Chairing the annual general body meeting of the society here on Friday, Mr. Ibrahim said while the existing governing body has done very good work, more work needs to be done in the coming days. A committee, comprising members Venu Sharma, Sylvester D’ Souza, G.K. Bhat and Dinesh Rao, was decided to be constituted to prepare the vision and agenda for the new governing body on the occasion. Advocate Dayanath Kotian said that the image of IRCS, Dakshina Kannada, has taken a beating following several omissions. The presence of 35 units of blood in a drain has brought bad name to the unit, he said and wanted to know about the inquiry into the incident.

To this, Mr. Ibrahim said that the blood found in the drain had crossed the expiry date. However, why it was thrown into the drain instead of being properly disposed of could not be ascertained, he said. The society has provided 1,002 units of blood to Government Lady Goschen Hospital, as per a memorandum of understanding with the hospital, the meeting was informed.
